Chicken Recipes For Kids Biography

Even if you don't have much chicken left over, you should still make this. A few shreds will be plenty. (And this recipe is worth bearing in mind even when your starting point is not leftover chicken: if you were to bung in some frozen prawns at the end, making sure you cook them through, this would make for a fabulous storecupboard supper.) This is a very laissez-faire recipe all round, actually: when I cooked it for the photo shoot I forgot to put the vegetables in and it was still heavenly. I did try to make up for my absent-mindedness by giving the tender-shoot stirfry a beauty-shot of its own, so you can see the mixture of pak choi, bok choi, spindly asparagus, Chinese kale, peanut shoots and Chinese chives. But I happily use some leafy greens and a julienned or sliced spring onion along with a handful of beansprouts instead. Similarly, if you can't get the ravishing cellophane packages of almost equally cellophane vermicelli, don't be put off making this; udon, soba, rice noodles, spaghetti or linguine could be substituted.
The kids' meal or children's meal is a fast food combination meal tailored to and marketed to children. Most kids' meals come in colorful bags or cardboard boxes with activities on the bag or box and a toy inside. The standard kids' meal comprises a burger, a side, and a soft drink.
The first kids' meal, Funmea emerged at Burger Chef in 1973 and succeeded. Discerning the popularity of the kids' meal, McDonald's introduced its Happy Meal in 1978,[note and other fast food corporations, including Burger King, followed suit with their own kids' meals.

Some fast food corporations considered children their "most important" customers, owing to the success of the kids' meal. Their effectiveness has been ascribed to the fact that the patronage of children often means the patronage of a family and to the allure of the toys, which often are in collectable series. In 2006, $360 million of the expenditures of fast food corporations was for toys in kids' meals, which numbered over 1.2 billion.

In recent years, the popularity of the kids' meal has receded, with a study by NPD Group indicating that there was a 6% decrease in kids' meals sales in 2011. Explanations include parents' realization that kids' meals are unhealthy, parents' desire to save money (opting instead to order from the value menu), as well as kids' outgrowing the meals earlier than before. Children have "become more sophisticated in their palettes" and seek items from the regular menu but in smaller servings. Kids' meal toys are also no longer appealing to the increasingly technology-oriented youth, who prefer video games. Also, the kids meal toys of Wendy's and Chick-Fil-A are no longer appealing to ages 8-12. Ironically, this appears to have been a reverse when the Subway Kids' Pak became the Subway Fresh Fit for Kids for Subway's kids meals, switching from ages 3-7 to all ages.

Kids' meals have evolved in response to critics, offering healthier selections and greater variety In 2011, nineteen food chains participating in the Kids Live Well initiative—including Burger King, Denny's, IHOP, Chili's, Friendly's, Chevy's, and El Pollo Loco—pledged to "offer at least one children's meal that has fewer than 600 calories, no soft drinks and at least two items from the following food groups: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins or low-fat dairy".

Chicken Noodle Soup

Ingredients:

1 litre chicken stock
150 grams thin rice noodles (or mung bean thread vermicelli)
200 ml coconut milk
3.5 cm piece of fresh root ginger (peeled and sliced thinly then cut into skinny strips)
2 tablespoons thai fish sauce (nam pla)
1 fresh red chilli (deseeded and cut into strips)
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon tamarind paste
1 teaspoon soft brown sugar
2 tablespoons lime juice
150 grams cooked shredded chicken
250 grams stir fry vegetables (or tender shoot stir fry)
2 - 3 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander (to serve)

Method:

Put the chicken stock in a good-sized pan to heat up.
Put the noodles in a bowl and pour boiling water over or cook as instructed on the packet.
Add the remaining ingredients, except the vegetables, to the pan and bring to a boil.
When the chicken is piping hot, add the vegetables and when they are tender – a minute or two should be plenty if you’re using the tender shoots – add the drained noodles. Or simply divide the noodles between bowls and pour the soup over them.
Serve sprinkled with chopped fresh coriander.
